A Brilliant Day in North London: Arsenal WSL Magic, Carol Singers & Christmas Cheer

Published: 7 December 2025

North London came alive this weekend, and as a family-owned and operated business for over 16 years, we absolutely loved seeing the community out in full force. From Islington to Highbury, on to Crouch End and up to Muswell Hill, the festive spirit was everywhere, Christmas lights, music, football scarves, carol singers, and local businesses being supported throughout the day.

Upper Street

Upper Street in Islington was packed with families out Christmas shopping, warm lights, music drifting from the cafés, and that classic North London December atmosphere. We even saw one dad and his kid hauling their Christmas tree home using a red retro Radio Flyer cart. Absolute scene. Pure Upper Street energy.

Chapel Market (Off Liverpool Road)

Just off Liverpool Road, Chapel Market was absolutely buzzing, the busiest we’ve seen it in ages. It’s a proper year-round street market, but on Saturdays it feels like half of Islington turns out to support the traders. Stalls were packed, families browsing, and it had that real “Small Business Saturday” atmosphere where indie businesses take centre stage.

Highbury & Arsenal WSL Matchday Magic

Festive matchday vibes at the Emirates, North London at its best.

The walk down Holloway Road from Highbury & Islington station had that brilliant matchday buzz, a red-and-white procession of fans heading toward the Emirates, lit by twinkling lights, the sound of chatter, and that unmistakable festive fun in the air.

Fans streamed in wrapped up in their football scarves, kids on mums’ and dads’ shoulders, and everyone ready for a cracking WSL game.

Plenty of people grabbed a hot drink or one of the festive pies on the way to their seats, exactly what you need to warm up before settling in on a properly nippy December afternoon.

And then came the moment that had the whole place roaring, Olivia Smith gliding past three Liverpool players before slotting home one of the best goals we’ve ever seen at the Emirates. Absolute magic.

Festive Moments in Crouch End

Crouch End was full of life yesterday: families doing their Christmas shopping, warm lights everywhere, and yes, more than a few people hauling trees home.

Carol singers performed by the clock tower, filling the air with proper Christmas classics. We’ve had several carol-singing groups hire from us recently, and seeing performers out and about with their backing tracks is always a joy.

Muswell Hill & Community Christmas Spirit

We bumped into another group of carol singers later up by Muswell Hill roundabout, performing for the crowd as people gathered around the shops. Muswell Hill felt magical, warm lights, festive windows, families wrapped up against the cold, and that unmistakable North London glow.

And yes… at some point this week, we definitely need to get ourselves down to the Alexandra Palace ice rink. It’s tradition.

Supporting Local Businesses at Christmas

Everywhere we went yesterday, the message was clear: North London supports its own. People were choosing their local shops, cafés, pubs and services instead of defaulting straight to the big online giants.

For a family-owned and operated business for over 16 years, that support means everything to us.
